Artist Code of Conduct

Professional standards for artists booking and performing through the Resistor platform.

Our Community

Electronic music was built by marginalized communities. As an artist on Resistor, you are part of a lineage that stretches from The Warehouse in Chicago to the sound systems of Kingston to the clubs of Berlin. This code of conduct honors that legacy by holding all artists to standards of professionalism, respect, and inclusion.

Professional Standards

1. Reliability

Honor your commitments. Arrive on time. Communicate proactively if plans change. Cancellations should be a last resort, not a negotiating tactic. If you must cancel, do so as early as possible and work with the promoter/venue to find a solution.

2. Communication

Respond to booking inquiries within 48 hours. Keep all communication professional and respectful. Use the Resistor messaging system for booking-related discussions to maintain a clear record for both parties.

3. Technical Preparedness

Maintain an accurate and up-to-date technical rider on your profile. Communicate equipment needs clearly and in advance. Bring backup equipment where feasible. Respect the venue's equipment and return it in the condition you received it.

4. Contractual Integrity

Read contracts before signing. Honor all contractual terms. If you disagree with a term, negotiate before signing — not after. Do not accept bookings you cannot fulfill. Disclose any conflicts (e.g., exclusivity clauses, competing events) upfront.

Inclusion & Respect

5. Inclusive Conduct

Treat all people with dignity and respect — promoters, venue staff, other artists, sound engineers, door staff, and attendees. Do not discriminate or behave dismissively based on anyone's gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, age, body size, religion, or experience level.

6. Safe Spaces

Support the event's code of conduct. Do not use your position (on stage, behind the decks, or in the green room) to harass, intimidate, or pressure anyone. If you witness misconduct, report it to event staff or through the Resistor platform.

7. Language & Representation

Avoid gendered, ableist, racist, or otherwise exclusionary language in your communications, social media posts about events, and on-mic interactions. Represent yourself and events honestly. Do not make claims about events, lineups, or fees that are not accurate.

8. Mentorship & Community

Where possible, support emerging artists. Share knowledge. Build community. Electronic music thrives when artists lift each other up rather than gatekeep. Consider participating in Resistor's mentorship programs if offered.

Health & Safety

9. Sound Safety

Respect sound level limits set by the venue and local regulations. Prolonged exposure to high sound levels causes permanent hearing damage. Protect your own hearing and that of the audience. Support venues that provide free earplugs.

10. Personal Conduct

Maintain a professional standard of conduct before, during, and after performances. Your behavior reflects on the event, the venue, and the broader community. If you are unable to perform safely due to intoxication or any other reason, communicate this to the promoter/venue immediately.
